06 Feb 2017 Northern Open Show
Northern Open Show, Grenoside Community Centre, Sheffield
9th April 2017 – Judge: Mr Mark Avery
Best Bitch & BIS / Res BB
Grenoside is so well established it just kind of happen nowadays without too much thought but we mustn’t forget to thank everyone who came for supporting our event . We hope you had a pleasant day with us. Although the main show entry was of typical size, 55dogs and 73 entries, suddenly in mid morning there seemed to be a lot of people around and the hall suddenly seemed crowded.
The familiarity with the organisational side of the event could lead to complacency so we were a little trepidacious (how’s that for a word – I don’t care if it exists or not!!) when the KC Field Officer turned up on a random inspection visit. After looking at the paperwork, the arrangements and the everything else he only picked up on a couple of minor points and was very happy with everything else. So you will all be relieved to know there will be an allergy notice in the kitchen at future shows.
We always do well for weather at this event but this year we really excelled ourselves. The first impression when we walked in the hall early in the morning was we must open the windows and draw the curtains, it was already warm. The day continued in this way and we could not open the curtains until the afternoon when the sun had passed over the building and off our windows. At a show where it is always seems to be warm this was our warmest yet, as I said in the introduction to the show I’m considering stopping coming to this event and book a holiday on the same week-end! Surely we will have to pay dramatically for this run of weather one year but for now we just have to enjoy it.
We must publicly thank all the non committee people who helped make the day the success it was. Your committee and officers are only at about half strength so need all the help we can get so we are really grateful and appreciate all the volunteers who mean we can run any events at all. We are especially grateful to the people who see nothing of the show through manning the kitchen all day Anthea Lavene who also baked cakes in advance, Denise Hughes, Alison Cliffe along with Jeanette Green who every year shops for and organises the catering at this event and Emily Green who also baked cakes – but then squashed some of them in the car! Many club events just wouldn’t be the same without David Robertson on the raffle and the blossoming Team Thompson on the club shop.
There are always such a lot of people who make the day as most of the members experience it possible and we are really grateful to them all for their effort.
We also thank Gary and Liam today’s reliable and efficient stewards and our judges, Mark Avery whose worst experience was having to sit with Sheffield Wednesday fans in the pub having travelled up the night before and Dawn Cochran who had a terrible journey to arrive just in time to judge the Members Awards at lunchtime. We must also thank Dawn for the lovely little gifts she had wrapped up for the entries in the Special Awards.
Finally we thank our show sponsors Happy Dog who generously provided bags of food for the class and special winners.
Congratulations to all our winners and especially our main winners. On such a warm relaxing day with a friendly vibe throughout, everyone should be able to have a good day win or not but it is always a nice bonus to win.
Judges reports and results will be found below as well as photos of all winners.

JUDGE’S REPORT
Firstly, I think it is a great honour to be asked to judge at one of the parent club’s shows and I thoroughly enjoyed my day. A very special thanks to my stewards, Gary & Liam, who enabled things to run very smoothly and kept me on track. It is always nice to see people interacting with their dogs. A few general observations; it was lovely to see some very promising puppies on show, all of which seemed to take showing in their stride. All exhibits today showed excellent temperament with no sign of nervousness. The surprisingly very warm day did affect some of the exhibits (and handlers) when moving. Mouths were good with one exception of an undershot bite. Movement is always difficult in a smallish indoor ring with mats, but front movement does leave a lot to be desired with a lot of very wide actions. It is also surprising the number of dogs that do not move in a straight line; even with mats to follow there were several that wandered off a straight course.
Minor Puppy Dog (2) 1st King & Green’s Joseph Vom Durrbachler Wald at Arvella (Imp Nld) 7 months old. Nice head with a dark but slightly rounded eye. Strong shoulders with straight forelegs. Good shape with bend of stifle. Lovely long tail, but lacking in the white tip. Coat in good condition and OK markings. He moved OK but needs to strengthen up to produce more drive and consistency. Overall a promising youngster. He had a busy and long day and in the challenge for best minor puppy had clearly run out of steam!
2nd Horn’s Husheen Let Me Love You 8 months old. Dark almond shaped eyes. A narrower head than 1 and this is extenuated by a lack of stop. Currently at a leggy stage and need to fill his frame. Good level topline. His movement is weak at present and haphazard which should improve as he grows into his frame.
Puppy Dog (4, 1wd) Nice class. I am sure these boys may change places as they develop. 1st Griffiths, Miles & Orme’s Jaybiem With N Without Yzeus 10 1/2 months old. Nice head with dark but slightly rounded eyes. Nicely proportioned white blaze. At this stage appears to have a short neck. Overall a pleasant shape with straight forelegs and adequate angle at the rear although, ideally, he could have more bend of stifles. Long bushy tail and lovely shine to his coat. Nicely marked overall with white in the all the right places. When he settled down he was the best mover in the class but he did tend to pace at times. BPD
2nd Connelly’s Shirdees Top Gun 10 months old. Nice head. Much longer in the neck than 1. Good bone throughout but smaller in overall frame than 1. Currently looks slightly long and when standing doesn’t keep a level topline. Coat in good condition with nice markings. Moved OK but needs to generally strengthen up.
3rd Jefferson’s Shirdees Fast N Furious 10 months old, litter brother of 2. Nice head with a thicker white blaze making the head look bigger. Nice dark eye. Good overall shape with good rear angulation. Well presented. Another who needs to strengthen up to get the best out of his movement.
Junior Dog (0)
Novice Dog (2, 1 absent) 1st Mead’s Deberni Lucky 2-year-old boy with a good stop, large white blaze, nice dark but slightly round eye. Good straight forelegs with good shoulder placement. Adequate angles at the rear with well let down hocks. Good level topline. A slightly wavy coat. Good markings. Moved OK with a slightly curved tail on the move.
Not Bred by Exhibitor Dog (4, 1) 1st Perks’ Kernow Festival Buzz 2 years old. Pleasing head but I would prefer more stop. Dark but slightly rounded eye. Finer than many but has adequate bone. Stands a little straight at the rear which affects his topline. Shiny coat with plenty of white. Best mover in the class.
2nd Grimes’ Stormberne Let It Snow 3 years old. Strong masculine head with dark almond shaped eyes. Excellent bone, slightly down on his pasterns, good rear angulation. Looks good on the stand with a long bushy tail. Plenty of white with a dark tan. Would suggest that he is slightly too heavy and this affects his movement. It may have been the size of the ring for this large lad but he couldn’t get it together today and was erratic and unbalanced.
3rd Robson’s Trudaleaze Majik Spell 3 years old. Nice head but needs a little more stop to fully define it. Adequate bone but a lighter frame than 2. Stands a little hunched up. Movement was OK but he needs to find more drive.
Graduate Dog (4) 1st Fairclough’s Monalou Spirit of Discovery 2 years old. Nice male head with a flat skull and nice dark eyes. Long neck, good straight forelegs and good bend of stifles presenting a good shape in the stand. Adequate bone. Slightly wavy coat in good condition. Nice white markings. Moved well but could be tighter at the front where occasionally he sticks his front leg out to the side.
2nd Perks’ Kernow Festival Buzz
3rd Trudaleaze Majik Spell
Post Graduate Dog (6, 1) 1st Stammers’ Athersbern Crowning Glory Nearly 5 years old. Nice head with good stop. Lovely dark almond shaped eyes with a large white blaze. Not the biggest but a nice well-proportioned shape. Slightly down on his pasterns but lovely rear angulation. Nice white markings and lovely coat. Best mover in the class, keeping a good level topline. (Made his handler work hard)
2nd Monalou Spirit of Discovery
3rd Hughes’ Waldershelf Causing Kaos Rising 3 years old. Masculine head with dark almond shaped eyes. Taller than 1 with plenty of daylight below. Good straight forelegs but I would prefer more bend of stifles. He needs to strengthen up on the move and carried his tail high which spoilt the overall picture on the move.
Limit Dog (4, 1) 1st Bird & Bridges’ Kernow Something 2-year-old boy. A lot to like about this lad. A strong masculine head but with a gentle, soft expression. Good stop with lovely dark almond shaped eyes. Strong sloping shoulders and upper arm with a distinct angle. I would prefer a longer more defined neck. Adequate bend of stifle. Thick good conditioned coat. Adequate white markings with a narrower white blaze than some. Best mover in the class with excellent drive from the rear and good tail carriage keeping a level topline. He does, however, tend to waiver from a straight line. Preferred the overall masculinity of the open class winner in the challenge. RBD
2nd Wakeland’s Shirdees Joe DiMaggio at Bramikdel JW 2 years old. Nice masculine head with good stop and a slight furrow. Beautiful dark eyes. Well off for bone, nice strong chest. Longer in the neck than 1. Smaller than some but a nice proportioned shape. I would prefer slightly more bend of stifle. Moved well but did carry his tail high. Seemed pleased to be here and enjoying himself.
3rd Marsden & Robertson’s Trudaleaze Ain’t I Adorable Rising 4 years old. I would prefer more stop to complete the head shape. Broad white blaze. Seemed to be feeling the heat today. Another that would benefit from a slightly longer neck. Adequate bone, would prefer more bend of stifles and he does tend to turn his rear feet out when standing. His movement was erratic and he didn’t really settle into a stride pattern.
Open Dog (3) 1st Round’s Collansues Black Magic 5 years old. Very masculine head with dark almond shaped eyes but another with a very soft expression. Good bone throughout, he stands very square. Strong powerful boy with straight forelegs and good bend of stifle. Well-proportioned in the stand. Coat in good condition with correct white markings. He moved with power and drive keeping a good level topline throughout with good tail carriage. He can be untidy and slightly wide at the front when not moving at the correct pace. Had clearly had enough at the end of the day when it came to the challenge with the BB which was a shame. BD, RBIS, BOS.
2nd Scott’s Welshbern One Vision at Scobern ShCM 4 years old. Another very nice lad. Smaller than 1 but a lot to like. Lovely head with dark almond shaped eyes. Good bone and well-proportioned giving a pleasant image in the stand. Slightly down on his pasterns and a tendency to turn his back feet out slightly in the stand, but good bend of stifle. Presented in good condition. Moved well but not as precise as 1. Seriously considered for RBD.
3rd Granger’s Orlando Bloom at Jaybiem JW ShCM Very nearly 3 years old. Masculine head with beautiful dark eyes. Good bone throughout providing a good shape in the stand. Good white markings. For some reason he was reluctant to move at his best today, maybe because of the heat.
Veteran Dog or Bitch (3, 3) 1st Jefferson’s Meadowpark Boysown 7-year-old male. Masculine head with a well-defined stop. Nice dark almond shaped eyes. Excellent bone with straight forelegs and adequate bend of stifles. Plenty of white markings in the correct places. Moved out well with plenty of drive. Just favouring his front left leg which I forgave at this age. BV
2nd Marsden & Robertson’s Trudaleaze I’m a Maze Zing 7-year-old bitch. Pretty feminine head with dark eyes. Looked petite when compared to the male but presented a good balanced shape on the stand. Slightly down on her pasterns but good bend of stifles. Moved OK but wide at the front and not the drive of 1.
3rd Scott’s Welshbern Trafys of Scobern 7-year-old boy. Nice head. Long neck into long shoulders. Another one down on his pasterns. Good bone throughout and adequate bend of stifles. Stands with his back feet turned out. Thick curly coat which didn’t help with the heat today. Good markings. Didn’t really get his movement together today.
Minor Puppy Bitch (3) 1st Bird & Head’s Cullumbern Roman Toga 7 months old. Feminine head with a good stop. Nice dark almond shaped eyes. Good straight front with adequate bend of stifles. Small but well proportioned. In good coat with good markings. Moved well with a nice flow but needs to tighten up a little which I’m sure will come. Good temperament and appeared to take everything in her stride. Very promising. BMP
2nd Atherton’s Arvella Penny Lane 8 months old. Pretty head with dark almond shaped eyes. Long neck with good shoulder placement. Straight forelegs with good bend of stifle. Taller than 1 and at this stage a little bit leggy. Minimal white markings on her front feet and I would prefer more white on her chest. Moved OK, but needs to tighten and strengthen up.
3rd Harris’ Meadowpark Dancin’ on my Own 6 months old. Pretty head with good stop and lovely dark brown eyes. Like 2 in that she presents a nice shape on the stand but at a tall leggy stage of development. Nicely marked. Needs to improve on the move as today she was a little haphazard, but she is only a baby. Needs a little more schooling.
Puppy Bitch (2, 1) 1st Miles’ Jaybiem My My My 10 months old. Nice head, but I would like more stop. Nice dark brown almond shaped eyes. Good long neck and good long shoulders. Straight forelegs, good level topline, I would prefer more bend of stifles, but overall a nice well proportioned shape. In good coat. Good markings. Moved out well with good drive and balance. Very well presented. BP, BPB
2nd Stammers’ Arvella Pennies from Heaven 8 months old. Pretty head with nice dark brown almond shaped eyes. Overall smaller than 1 but presented a good shape on the stand with adequate bend of stifles. Nice white markings with a clearly defined white cross on her chest. Moved OK but carried her tail high.
Junior Bitch (4, 1) 1st Flaxman’s Glanzberg See the Sun 17 months old. Very nice head with an adequate stop and flat skull. Lovely dark brown almond shaped eyes. A long neck, straight forelegs and good bend of stifles presenting a nice shape. Coat in good condition and nice white markings. Moved well with good drive but keeping a good level topline. Not out of place in the line-up.
2nd Grimes’ Fortonpark Future Dreams TAF 16 months old. Nice head with a good stop and a flat skull. Dark brown slightly round eyes. Taller than one with good length of neck and straight forelegs. I would prefer more bend of stifles. Good coat with nice markings. Moved OK but wide at the front.
3rd Jeffries’ Esslinbern Eternal Joy 11 months old. Needs a bit more stop, large white blaze. Nice dark brown eyes. Shorter in the neck, good straight forelegs but needs more bend of stifles. Nice markings. Moved a little loosely but when she strengthens up this should improve.
Novice Bitch (4, 1) 1st Miles’ Jaybiem My My My
2nd Atherton’s Arvella Penny Lane
3rd Jeffries’ Esslinbern Eternal Joy
Not Bred By Exhibitor Bitch (6) 1st Flaxman’s Glanzberg See The Sun
2nd Grimes’ Fortonpark Future Dreams TAF
3rd Thompson’s Trudaleaze Shes Gorjus at Brierbern. Nearly 4 years old. Pretty head with good stop and flat skull. Dark brown slightly round eyes. Adequate bone, slightly down on her pasterns but good bend of stifle giving an overall nice shape on the stand. Nice white markings. Moved slightly wide at the front.
Graduate Bitch (3’ 1) 1st Flaxman’s Glanzberg See the Sun
2nd Thompson’s Trudaleaze Shes Gorjus at Brierbern
3rd Perks’ Bernfawr Hot Spice 4 years old. A feminine head with dark brown almond shaped eyes. A short neck, straight forelegs, needs more bend of stifles. Plenty of bone. Nice markings. Never really got going on the move.
Post Graduate Bitch (3, 1) 1st Bird’s Kernow Let It Be at Cullumbern JW 2 ½ years old. A lot to like about this young lady. Nice head with a good stop and flat skull. Lovely dark brown almond shaped eyes. Has a minimal white blaze. Well boned and well proportioned. Good straight forelegs and good bend of stifles. Coat in good condition and well presented. My preference would be for slightly more white markings to complement her dark tan. Moves with good drive and keeps a good level topline but today she moved very much off a straight line which spoiled her overall movement. Seriously considered in the challenge.
2nd Thompson’s Alphanova Rosetta at Brierbern 5 ½ years old. Pretty head with good stop and a flat skull. Smaller than 1. Overall a nice shape with good markings. Moved OK but can carry her tail high.
3rd Perks’ Bernfawr Hot Spice
Limit Bitch (4) 1st Marsden & Robertson’s Trudaleaze Majik Potion Rising 3 years old. If being very picky her head is little narrow but it has a good stop and flat skull with dark brown almond shaped eyes. Good length of neck with long shoulders, good angles throughout. A very well proportioned bitch she stands four square with ease. Presents a lovely image on the stand which she maintains when moving. Coat in good condition with good markings. Well presented. She moves steadily with drive keeping a good level topline. Overall today she was the best mover. BB & Best in Show.
2nd Wilson’s Monalou Maid in Russia at Blumental 3 ½ years old. A prettier head than 1 with nice dark brown almond shaped eyes. Can reach up and extend her neck when looking at her handler but when held more naturally has a good length of neck. Good straight forelegs and good bend of stifle gives her a good balanced shape. Didn’t move quite as well as 1 but moved with drive in a controlled way keeping her topline level. In the challenge for RBB I preferred the steadiness of her movement. RBB
3rd Granger’s Shirdees Harlow Jean of Shadybower JW 2 years old. Nice head with dark brown almond shaped eyes. Taller than1 & 2. I would prefer more bend of stifles. Coat in good condition and nice markings. Unfortunately, did not move as well as the other 2 and was a bit stop and start today in the confines of the hall.
Open Bitch (2, 1) 1st Griffiths, Slade & Orme’s Jaybiem Voo Doo with Potterspride JW 6 years old. Her head has a flat skull with a significant furrow. Lighter brown and slightly rounded eyes. Good length of neck. Good bone throughout but slightly small in stature when compared with some of the others. Overall a good shape with good bend of stifles. In good coat and with nice markings. Moved steadily but another one who wandered from a straight line.
2nd Green’s Waldershelf All About Edna JW Almost 3 years old. A pretty head with a good stop. Taller and generally bigger frame than 1. Good bone with straight forelegs and good bend of stifles. A very curly coat and reluctant to keep it in the heat of the day. Moved OK but not as well as 1.
