.
The first show at our Garden Party venue went ahead with perfect weather and the venue turned out to be a great setting for a show and everyone had a great day. Our show judge Jenny Shorer-Wheeler had 44 entries to pour over and Members Award Judge Huw Morris really embraced and enjoyed his day with our breed. The show was opened by a well supported carting parade and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere around the ring all day.
Thank you to everyone who supported our show, whether by entering and showing or by helping in one of so many ways we need to utilise this venue. Many people give up their week, or a big part of it to make this venue so good for those who visit at the week-end and we are really grateful to everyone who helps, more specific thank yous can be found on the Garden Party report associated with this week-end. Scroll down the page for the judges report and the Members Award reports and photos.

Judges Report for Main Show Classes
Firstly, I would like to sincerely thank the Officers and Committee of the BMDCGB, and my stewards, for your kind invitation and warm hospitality at your lovely show. There is no greater pleasure as a judge then to have a huge ring and pleasant weather, giving perfect conditions to assess all the lovely dogs, which I thank your exhibitors for entering. It was a privilege to judge this show.
Dogs
VD (1) 1 Hughes’ Ch Waldershelf Causing Kaos ShCM, lovely to see this chap is still going strong at 9.5 years and still in fine voice! Makes a great shape standing, handsome head, good eye, plenty of bone, in beautiful condition, just giving away a touch in movement these days but gave it his very best and earned his spot in the dog shortlist and RBVIS.
MPD (1) 1 New’s Etterbern Forever First. Delightful 7mth lad enjoying his first outing enormously. Really liked his masculine, well laid out head, good eye, good feet, substance without any excess weight, moved nicely when he put his mind to it, very close up for BPIS but had to concede to the young lady who was a bit more together, BMPIS, very promising puppy.
JD (2,1) 1 Miles’ Jaybiem Noah Fence. Smaller dog, not giving it his all today, made a decent shape but in that awkward Junior stage, needs to fill out, develop and coat up a bit, tidy mover, will be interested to see how he develops.
Not Bred By Exh (5,1) 1 Bridges’ Krimm Bernenska Sfora At Kernow (Imp Pol), I have started my notes on this chap with ‘very nice sort’ and he grew quietly on me as the day continued, to finish as my Best In Show. Not the biggest or flashiest but plenty of substance in a balanced package. His shape is correct, he has a masculine head without being overdone, a lovely eye, good bone, strong topline and moved well enough to win here, notching it up in the dog challenge to take Best Dog and later BIS. Congratulations. 2 Johnson’s Bern Haus On Oka Hero For Gorsebern, a taller dog but still maintaining good overall balance. Kind expression, lovely broad back, good coat, in good order, moved well. Worth building confidence of both dog and handler to project yourselves more, I could see him taking higher awards. 3 Anufrowicz’s Hr Ch Thunder Taro Bohemijos Zibute JCh Pol/HR/SK, very well-presented and handled dog who moved out positively. Gave away to 1 and 2 on coat, I felt it was rather open, and eye shape could be tidier.
GD (3,1) 1 Copeland’s Kernow Dollar Promises At Maxjabar, well-muscled dog whose front will hopefully develop a bit further. Positive mover, correct outline, good bone, gentle expression. 2 Johnson’s Bern Haus On Oka Hero For Gorsebern, see previous class.
PGD (1) 1 Copeland’s Trudaleaze He’s Fab You Lous At Maxjabar, decent male, quite proud of his tail and full of joy on the move which made him a bit untidy at times. Kind head with good eye, good colour, good bone and substance.
LD (3) A good class, all nice males. 1 King, Green & Dedman, Parrwizz Vom Durrbachlerwald At Arvela (Imp Nld), strong masculine head, could perhaps use his ears better. Really nice mover, well-muscled, good overall shape and balance; liked his type, Reserve Best Dog. 2 Wakeland’s Kernow Yester Years At Bramikdel, a different head to one, not quite as typical for me, a little rounder in skull and not quite the eye shape, but very nice through body, well-conditioned and a good mover. 3 Hughes’ Waldershelf Cubby Ad Astra, another well-presented and moving well, just felt he fell away a little steeply over his croup and was a touch proud of his tail. Really nice head.
OD (3) 1 Manix’s Waldershelf Fame N Fortune, very well presented, clean on the move, nice head, good bone, broad back, well-muscled, close up for top honours. 2 Miles’ Jaybiem Only Making Plans, not quite the coat and presentation of 1, and a touch finer built all through, liked his head and good front extension on the move. 3 Bridges’ Ch Kernow Troublue, kind head and plenty of substance but a little longer through the loin and was losing his topline especially on the move.
VB (1) 1 King’s Ecalpharas Moonshine Over Leapingwell, pretty girl, a little ‘peaky’ in skull possible due to muscle loss, but very good eye, lovely overall shape and substance, in super nick, moving really well which ultimately earned her further consideration in the bitch challenge and then took her to BVIS
Bitches
MPB (1) 1 Rotar & Constantinescu, Csipkerozsika De Terrae Siculorum TAF. A sweet baby girl who was not at all convinced about this showing lark, but was persuaded to take some treats from me and moved increasingly well after a few tries. Needs a lot of confidence building but worthy of the effort.
PB (4) 1 Marsden & Robertson, Kernow Bittersweet Tale For Trudaleaze, won this class and ultimately BPIS on movement, which was clean, accurate and positive, and temperament, which was jolly and outgoing as I would expect. She has a good overall shape and is well put together. I would like a tidier eye and her skull needs time to develop and lose the baby fluff but nothing to worry about at this age. 2 Spalding’s Kinelarty Naughty But Nice, a sweet girl, not quite the strength and outline I was after but steady temperament and tidy mover. 3 Bridges’ Kernow Bittersweet Road, really liked this girl but she took offence to something while being gone over and threw it away today. Hope she can work through it because I liked her a lot.
JB (7,2) 1 Blythe’s Rodiveco Dulce Mijenta Avec Bernbienaime, lovely girl, a tall one but well balanced and will fill her frame nicely as she matures, I think. Attractive head, good bone, neat feet, good broad back. Moved well enough for age. Considered for higher honours but not quite ready yet, her time will come. 2 Bailey & Williams’ Goetre Nest Of Beauty At Timarabai, nice head, in good overall condition but not the strength in topline of the winner. Moved well. 3 McGrady-Ciesluk, Gorsebern Indian Summer, much finer all through but a correct outline, needs to fill out considerably, sweet head, moved well.
NB (2,1) 1 McGrady-Ciesluk, Gorsebern Indian Summer, see previous class.
Not Bred By Exh (2) 1 Bridges’ Karmen Bernenska Sfora At Kernow (Imp Pol), liked this bitch and see she is the litter sister to my BIS, another not super happy to be there and so not making the best of herself, but had to take the class on shape and fitness. In super coat. 2 Sokel’s Kernow Blue Lagoon, nice bitch who gave it her all on the move, decent head, could lose a few pounds.
GB (3,1) 1 Marsden & Robertson, Kernow Glory Days At Trudaleaze, good shape and carries herself well, won this class on her proportions, this exhibitor had several bitches all of whom I liked for type but felt all could stand to lose a bit of covering to take them a bit further. 2 King, Green & Dedman, Hasta Vom Durrbachlerwald At Arvela (Imp Nld), this bitch was presented in tip top order but I preferred the overall proportions of the winner.
PGB (3) Good class. 1 King, Green & Dedman, Hundi Vom Durrbachler Wald At Arvella (Imp Nld), litter sister to 2 in the previous class, and a really smart prospect, pushed all the way in the bitch challenge and lost out on the top spot by a whisker. Loved her head and expression, beautifully trained and conditioned, in a smaller mould but not lacking substance. Moved with verve. RBB. 2 Marsden & Robertson, Trudyleaze Ain’t I Fab You Lous, bigger all round and again could be slimmer, but moved well regardless, another good one albeit a different style. 3 Andrews, Waldershelf Leading Lady, stronger in head than 1 & 2 but another good one, also moving well.
LB (3,1) 1 Sutton & Davenport-Willis, Nelstephbern Dior By Design, liked this girl, coat not at its best, pretty head with neat eye, good bone, neat feet, nice rump, well presented and handled. 2 Harris’ Meadowpark’s Dancin On My Own, older girl with a tremendous depth of chest which slightly spoilt her overall balance. Clearly loved her mum, super temperament, good head and eye. Could use ears better.
OB (4) 1 Green, Green & English, Waldershelf Gin And Tonic, one I have met before and pleased to see her front has settled. She is a strapping girl with a super solid topline, good balance to muzzle and skull, could perhaps have a slightly smaller ear, but there is no denying her quality in overall shape and structure, moves cleanly and positively, pleased to award her Best Bitch/RBIS/BOS. 2 Marsden & Robertson, Tickbern Valencia Avec Vellbern, similar in style to 1 but again not in the fit, hard condition she needs to be to go the extra mile. But plenty to like in basic structure and proportions. 3 Sutton & Davenport-Willis, Ch Nelstephbern Dior Foreva, sweet girl but preferred heads on my first two.

SPECIAL MEMBERS AWARDS
There is no overall placing for the Members Awards so these are the dogs simply placed 1-4 in the four classes.
Below, The photos and full results are incorporated into the critique from our JudgE.
Judge : Huw Morris (CWNHAPUS)
I felt deeply honoured to have been asked to accept this engagement for the above club. I was treated like a ‘king’ from the moment I arrived, thanks to Karen Bird & Co. The whole show was meticulously organised beforehand and was extremely enjoyable to take part in on the day. Thank you again to the organisers and to my very able Steward, Mark Avery.

CLASS: A – SPECIAL MEMBERS’ PUPPY AWARD (1,0)
1st Marsden’s & Robertson’s KERNOW BITTERSWEET TALE FOR TRUDALEAZE – This 9 month-old bitch was certainly enthusiastic, alert and lively – just like a puppy should be! She was reasonably well-boned, showing good signs of maturing. Her head was strong and flat on top, with dark eyes and high-set triangular ears. Her teeth had a good scissor bite. Her neck was of medium length and was reasonably muscular. Her chest was broad and of good depth, reaching the elbows. Her back was quite firm for a youngster. She had an acceptable turn of stifle and good round feet. Her bushy tail stretched down beyond the hock. There was nothing too juvenile about her gait, which was already impressive.
.
.
CLASS: B – SPECIAL MEMBERS’ JUNIOR AWARD (3,1)
1st Blythe’s RODIVECO DULCE MIJENTA AVEC BERNBIENAIME – This 14 month-old bitch had an impressive outline and proved to be well-boned when gone over. She had a strong, straight muzzle. Her ears were triangular and well-placed. Her shoulders were long and her upper arms were strong. Her height to length ratio was excellent (9:10) and her topline remained horizontal throughout. There was plenty of strength in her loins and hind quarters. Her feet were small and round. Her impressive movement indicated both all-round strength and balance front & back. A clear winner on the day.
2nd Bailey’s & Williams’ GOETRE NEST OF BEAUTY AT TIMARABAI – This was also a 14 month-old bitch, who was quite alert in the ring. Her skull was flat and had a well-defined stop. Her ears were medium in size and were well set. Her medium length neck led on to a topline that was quite long in comparison to her height. I would have preferred a horizontal topline, both standing and on the move. Some of the detail was lost on parts of the body, as it was hidden beneath a coat that was a little too ample in length. The hind quarters were well proportioned, but the tail did not quite reach the hocks. She had satisfactory movement.
.
CLASS: C – SPECIAL MEMBERS’ POST GRADUATE AWARD (5,1)
1st Andrew’s WALDERSHELF LEADING LADY – This 3 year-old bitch oozed quality. She came over immediately as a strong working dog, who was alert in the ring and proved to be very well-boned. There was nothing fragile about this little lady! Her head was strong and she had a flat skull. Her eyes were dark and almond shaped. Her triangular ears were flat in repose. Her upper arms were well-muscled. She was, indeed, well-muscled throughout. There was a good turn of stifle and the feet were short, round and compact. Her gait was excellent, both to the front and rear. I felt that she was a better representative of a bitch than the dog was a representative of a dog, who came second to her – but we are splitting hairs here. Another day, the decision could have gone the other way around1
2nd Hughes’ WALDERSHELF CUBBY AD ASTRA – This 3 year-old dog had many of the qualities of the above bitch who narrowly beat him on the day. He was well-natured and robust, making him an amicable workhorse. He had a very strong head, with a well-defined stop and straight muzzle. His eyes were dark and almond-shaped. His jaws were strong and the dentition displayed the correct scissor bite. His neck was of medium length and was sufficiently muscled. There was strength in both his shoulders and upper arms. His chest was broad and reached to his elbows. His back and loin were strong and firm. His bushy tail reached convincingly below his hocks. As with his litter mate above, his movement was excellent. Both were shown well.

Res Harris’ MEADOWPARK DANCIN’ ON MY OWN
CLASS: D – SPECIAL MEMBERS’ OPEN AWARD (5,1)
1st Manix’s WALDERSHELF FAME N’ FORTUNE – This 3 year-old dog ‘commanded the stage’ as soon as he was led into the ring. He was truly impressive. His strength and power as a working dog were quite obvious immediately. He was well-boned and confident. His head was strong and flat, with a well-defined stop and a straight muzzle. His jaws were strong and his teeth had a scissor bite. He remained alert – as evidenced in the forward carriage of his ears. His neck was medium in length and powerful, supporting his masculine head with great ease. His frame excelled, having well-muscled shoulders and forelegs. The 9:10 height/length ratio emphasised the compactness of his body. His brisket reached his elbows and his back was level and firm. He had a good turn of stifle and he was well up on his pasterns. He was an enthusiastic mover and was perfectly balanced in reach and drive, making his ground coverage appear effortless. He was an excellent example of the breed.
.
2nd Bridges’ CH KERNOW TROUBLUE – This 5 year-old dog was also of excellent quality and performed well on the day. He was reasonably well-boned and had impressive strength on the move. He was also well-natured. His eyes were dark and his lids were close fitting. His ears were triangular in shape and set high. His head was very well developed. His neck was of medium length and was reasonably muscular. His forequarters were well-muscled and his forelegs were straight and vertical from all sides. His chest was broad and he had good depth of brisket. He was well-muscled throughout and was quite compact. His tail was bushy and reached to below his hocks. He moved well around the ring, both at the front and the rear. He challenged well for first place, but was beaten by #1 on finite detail and brisk, easy movement.
3rd – Sutton & Davenport-Willis’ NELSTEPHBERN DIOR BY DESIGN

Later after completion of the day’s proceedings, Judge Huw Morris requested a picture with some Bernese as a momento of his day with our breed and we were happy to oblige
