Judge’s Report of Michelle Smee – Schnaubern
I would like to thank the committee for this appointment, it has been one of my own historical events, Firstly, the show fell on my 55th Birthday, and the 50th Birthday of the breed club, but also 40 years ago on my 15th Birthday, myself and my mum brought our very first Bernese.

Our Special Member’s Awards Judge was Babs Munson (Pyrbern)
Members Awards Judge’s Report
Thanks must go to the committee for inviting me to judge this wonderful breed in the Special Members’ Classes. Without exception all the entrants were beautifully presented, had correct dentition and all the males were entire.
Class A Puppy Award (5,1)
- Bailey and Williams’ Goetre Nest of Beauty at Timarabai. 7 month old bitch who, although a bit bum high at the moment has good overall construction which showed in her movement which was nice and balanced. Good shape of head with medium set ears and dark eye and narrow blaze. Good depth of chest and lay of shoulders. Good tail carriage.
- Miles, Jaybiem Noah Fence5 month old dog smaller than 1 but well put together. Inquisitive expression with lovely dark eye. Nice tight paws and moved steadily for one so young.
- King, Green & Dedman Goetre Warrior Gwellian at Arvella (AI). I see she is litter mate to my winner. She is of stockier build but in saying that all seems to be heading in the right direction for her to mature nicely. Lovely expression. Moved well carrying tail nicely
Class B Junior (1,0)
- Marshall’s Mountain Crystal Scarloett at Bernannan (Imp Hun). Tall 16.5month old bitch with great markings, narrow blaze on nicely developed head. Dark eyes and medium sized ears. Correct proportions. Moved with purpose and drive.
Class C Post Graduate (4,1)
- Harris’ Meadowpark’s Dancin’ On My Own. 6yr old bitch Well built girl with correct dentition, dark eye and narrow blaze. Moved out well holding her topline and carrying tail nicely. Good angulation throughout
- Marshall’s Bernolli Draaon Heart at Berannan (Imp Rus) 19 month old male with lovely width of head correct ear set, dark eye and lovely expression. Moved well holding his topline.
- Sokel’s Kernow Blue Lagoon 3yr old bitch. Smaller than 1 & 2 but all in proportion. Appeared a bit bum high and it showed in her movement. Sadly she was distracted and, I felt, did not show herself to her best potential. This could probably be helped by a bit more Ringcraft for both herself and her handler.
Class D Open. (6,2)
- Cotton’s Ch Shirdees Greatest Showman at Jukesbern. This almost 3yr old shows exactly why he is a Champion. He has a great head with everything right, His angulation is good with no over exaggeration, holds his topline when on the move and covers the ground well. Lovely cat’s paw feet, all in all a superb package.
- Cottons Kernow Billy No Mates at Jukesbern. Again another stunning young male and a difficult decision between this lad and winner. He has the bone, angulation and movement that this kennel is well known for and, if I remember rightly I gave him his first BPIB at his first show. He has not disappointed over the years. Could so easily change places on a different day.
- Wakeland’s Kernow Yester Years at Bramikdel. 2.5yr old male of lovely size, Good lay of shoulders and depth of brisket, moved well with good tail carriage. Lovely head with dark eyes and narrow blaze. Lovely tight paws. Shown in beautiful condition.
