Spring Open Show 2022

10th April saw our first show of the year and after missing two years at the venue we returned to our usual location of Grenoside Community Centre, just north of Sheffield. Our main show judge was Yvonne Ladd-Cannon and our Special Members Award judge was Colin Woodward.

We are all experiencing difficult times so we are extremely grateful to our sponsors ‘Happy Dog’ for their generous support of our Open show with bags of food for every class winner and large bags for our main winners.

Entries were 41 dogs in total giving 45 entries in total with 16 in the Special Awards section. Thank you to everyone who entered our show we really do appreciate the support and even bigger thanks to those who attended and helped make such a lovely day.

Thank You

As always we have to express our grateful thanks to the non committee people who help us stage our show and provide the service we need and our members expect. Mostly friends and family of committee members their invaluable assistance includes help setting up and taking down, stewarding, kitchen cooking, serving cleaning etc, raffles. Anyone who writes these lists is petrified of missing anyone off but it is too important to shy away. So big heartfelt thanks and well done to Simon and Beverly Gould, Ali Cliffe, Jeanette Green, Ollie and Katie Jones, Colin Hughes, Owen Copeland, Phil English, Chelsea Hickling & Lauren Bridges  – we were like a well oiled machine!

We are always grateful for help at our events so if you can spare some time please talk to the organiser, especially at our bigger events. The committee simply could not run our events without a great deal of this extra help so please consider offering when you can.

Full results and photos will appear here in the coming days as soon as available.

JUDGE’S REPORT by Yvonne Ladd-Cannon

Thank you to the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of GB for the invitation to judge their breed club open show. There was a very warm welcome and the atmosphere at the show was wonderful. Thank you to my stewards Chelsea and Phil for their help on the day, and I must also acknowledge the wonderful team who put on a wonderful lunch.

Thank you also to the exhibitors who entered under me today.

The entry, despite being depleted with absentees did not detract from the quality of dogs which were in the main of correct breed type.  The ring was not conducive to some dogs showing their movement to their best advantage.

I am when judging, looking for dogs that stand, when viewed from all angles, well in front and behind. There were a few exhibits that tended to stand with a foreleg out turned and some others were weak in hock.  It has been a very long time since I owned this breed but I still love them and so it was a pleasure to spend my day with them.

Front action good, a little close behind. Best puppy dog and Best Minor puppy in show.   Lost out on best puppy in show as the female was of a slightly better balance.
