As always the carters were given a high profile role in our major event and the images of the British Bernese carting are amongst the most memorable that visitors take away, especially the overseas visitors who will talk about the carting parades in the UK for years. The international Bernese community remember the carting they see at the GB international events as a unique and special experience. Recognising this the club gave the carters the prime ring position at the event as well as souvenirs and a free evening for making the effort to contribute so brilliantly to our Golden Jubilee.
The carters played a great part on several of the evening events as well as brilliantly contributing to the opening of both show days. The opening parade featuring the flags of each country with visitors present at our event, was a great start to the day and a great backdrop lined up across two rings for the immaculately observed minute’s silence followed by the National Anthem as the club paid its respect to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. A similar process took place the next day when we held a minute’s silence for recently passed Life Member Lena Robbins.
The reception the carters received in the already happy evening hall, especially from the overseas visitors was amazing with everyone getting to their feet and applauding. Energy levels went up several degrees and have we ever had spontaneous rhythmic clapping to the beat of Swiss music before? Nope is the answer! The torchlit parade was a magical experience building on the brilliant atmosphere in the room and the Red Sparrows Carting Surprise was pure entertainment for Saturday evening’s audience although what the overseas people made of the 2nd World War RAF moustaches we can only wonder! In fact the overseas visitors really appreciated the carters and conversations were about the uniqueness of the British Bernese carting scene.
Many countries have carting within our breed but nowhere else can these sorts of scenes be found. So well done and thank you to all the carters, you were a real much appreciated highlight of our Golden Jubilee and the exposure you have gained will keep people talking about you around the Bernese world for years.
There was also a Working Cart course held during the event to replace the one removed from the calendar by the unavoidable cancellation of the Autumn Garden Party and the results can be found below as well as the overall carting medals for the year.
Photos of the carting parades and all Golden Jubilee activities can be seen on the club’s photo viewing platform via this link (If you need guidance on using this site please go to the Golden Jubilee event photography page and see the notes on that page).
Please feel free to send in any further photos of the carting activities you’d like to share with the membership to web@bernese.co.uk There must be a lot of great but unseen images out there!
