As the one with the expected highest attendance this was always planned to be the main night of the week, the most important evening, and it is safe to say the audience helped us turn it up to 11. There was palpable excitement in the room and the whole evening just flew by. The room was certainly full enough to be atmospheric and the village fete like bunting and other decor certainly helped with that. Throw in the smell and taste of a hog roast, music and merriment and, judging by the comments and feedback, everyone seemed to have a brilliant night. A big part of the success of the evening was the audience engagement and loud responses to events so if you joined us for our celebration evening then you helped u s to create a great evening so thank you to everyone who was there to support our event.

The general banter and chatter was interrupted by several events through the evening which, judging by the responses, were all fantastically well received.
Of course no proper celebration would be complete without a cake and we had several available through the week. The main Golden Jubilee cake was presented tonight after the pork roast meal and cut by our amazing Patron, Maurice Johnson, before being shared out to the audience. We would like to thank Local Farm Box for their generous donation of this special cake.

After the cake was distributed, Club president Steve Green, made a well received short speech thanking everyone for joining the club for its Golden Jubilee and saying how much every attendance was appreciated in these difficult times. He went on to mention all the people who were working so hard to make this event happen and especially mentioned the organising committee and as each of them was identified they each received a massive round of applause so with no apologies, here are their names again Emily English (nee Green), Donna Hughes, Abbie Manix, Fiona Hallam and Karen Bird. (Steve never mentioned himself as the sixth member of the organising committee).

Steve then paid tribute to the founders of the club and all those who had gone before and played a part in getting the club to where it was today. He particularly mentioned the club’s first three Life Members, Diana Cochrane, Brenda Griffiths and the only recently departed, Lena Robbins.

Finally Steve proposed a toast to the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain which everybody stood and joined in and then gave the club a very loud and lengthy round of applause.

As the applause died down several people took the chance to then present gifts from their own clubs to our club via Steve, each of them congratulating the club on not only 50 years, but also putting on such a great celebration event.

So, big thank you to, from l to r, Gary Galunas from Berner Garde, Christine Malherbe from the French AFBS, Julie Jackson from BMDCA and Lori Jodar also from Berner Garde. We really appreciate your generosity and kind words.

The evening then moved on to the auction in aid of the BHI Health Fund and an impressive collection of donated items was on display for auction by a live auction or a silent auction. We thank all the individuals or companies that donated items when approached, we could not have done this without your generosity, there were thousands of pounds worth of good for sale. We also thank the audience who responded so enthusiastically to Emily’s prompting during the auction and encouraged lots of bids and along the way generated a great atmosphere for the evening. Thank you to Emily, Donna and Abbie for all the work putting together and delivering the auction spectacle.

Following the auction, we moved swiftly on to another highlight for many people, the Torchlit parade by the carters. Photos, or video for that matter, cannot do justice to the impact this parade had on the room of Bernese devotees from around the world. We have never had such rhythmic applause to Swiss music before and it was kept up for quite some time. Many of them had never seen this before and will be talking about it for years, just like after our Ruby Jubilee. Here are a few photos but really you had to be there.

After the excitement of the evening so far the Champions Parade was a fitting conclusion to such a great night. All had entered in advance and all received an individually named rosette and a brilliant gift bag, provided by sponsors Artero Dog Grooming Products. So, after Saturday’s two judges had been removed from the room the Champions appeared one by one to music of their choosing and a precis of their details read out as they did a lap of honour.

Thank you to everyone who took part in any of the events in any way, and contributed to making our main golden Jubilee Celebration evening such a special one.

Here is some background about Lisbet & Jens Ramsing
The name “Sennettas” is world famous in Bernese circles and is the kennel name of husband and wife team, Jens and Lisbet Ramsing from Denmark.
Jens started out in the early 1970s with the kennel name of “Danettas. He purchased a number of quality females from the famous Swiss kennel, ” Bernetta” owned by Alice Moser (who became his mentor) and together with his then wife Jytte, they enjoyed considerable success at club specialty shows and World shows with a number of Bernese including, World Winner, Heika v Bernetta (b. 1974), World Winner in Bern and Best In Show, Madi v Bernetta (b. 1976). Their first “Danettas” litter was bred in 1975 from Flori v Bernetta sired by Dani von der Sagegasse. The litter contained DK Ch Danettas Jucky, who was the dam of NK Ch Danettas Laro and Dk Ch Danettas Jonni who was the dam of Dk Ch Ponti.
The first “Sennettas” litter was born in 1984 with Jens with his wife Lisbet. In this litter were the top winning females, WW ’86 Danettas Urte and her litter sister Sennettas Ursula who won the Res CACIB at the World show in Innsbruck. Together, they have had considerable breeding and showring success with many Bernese owned and bred by them, including Twice European Winner, Int Ch Danetas Floggy (born 1980), Int Ch Danettas Pazuzu (WW ’85) and the sensational twice World Winner and twice BOB at Crufts, record breaking top sire/ top producer, Int Ch Sennettas Sixten (born 1995) whose female line goes back five generations to Heika von Bernetta, one of the excellent foundation females Jens purchased from Alice Moser.
Jens qualified as an FCI judge in both Denmark and Germany in 1981, originally starting out with the 4 Sennenhund breeds. Lisbet became fully authorised as an FCI for Berner Sennenhund in 1991. Today, both are passed to judge a number of breeds, Jens for all breeds in FCI Groups 2 and 5 which correspond to the Working Group. Lisbet. FCI Group 2 and Group 10 as well as a number of breeds in FCI Groups 1,5, 6 and 9. Both have judged Bernese Mt Dogs extensively all over the world. They are looking forward to judging in the UK in September, at the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of GB 2022 Championship show.

Mrs. Ylä-Mononen began her experience in purebred dogs in her native Finland in 1982 exhibiting Bernese Mountain Dogs. David has been training dogs since the late 90’s, starting with a rescue Collie X/GSD named Moses, in obedience at companion shows. He found this a complete eye opener and began his entry into the wonderful world of activities that are available for our faithful companions.
Over the years David has shown his dogs Moses, Max, Pip and Amber in a variety of obedience, conformation and heelwork to music. Max excelled at heelwork to music, in which he came second in the Inter Regional Championships for the South East Region. Pip reached the Kennel Club Special Pre-Beginner Stages in 2014 and the National Obedience Class Finals in 2015. She also reached A&B in open obedience shows and auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent, with heelwork to music! In which she has a first in starters. Amber is still young, currently 3.5 years old. Whilst she has done basic heelwork to music, and is at novice and A in obedience, her forte is man trailing and scenting, which they are currently still learning.
In addition to exhibiting, David has spent time as a club secretary of a companion dog training club and is a trainer and examiner for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme. He is also a student member of their Accredited Instructor Scheme, waiting to be assessed, and an Advanced Professional member of the PDTI (Pet Dog Training Instructors).
David has been judging at companion shows since 2008, becoming ’official’ in 2016, passing the Kennel Club’s obedience judge examination. David marvels at the great bond between owners and their faithful companions, and looks forward to seeing the handlers at the Bernese show, and wishes them all a great time with their dogs.
