Overall comments
I would like to thank the Society and Committee for inviting me to judge this lovely show. The Bernese Mountain Dog is a breed very close to my heart and I enjoyed the day immensely. The show was part of a two-day event that was a fitting celebration of the breed. Well done to everyone involved for organising everything to perfection.
The quality of the dogs was, overall, excellent, the atmosphere joyous and supportive. Thank you to my steward for ensuring everything in the ring run like clockwork. A huge thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs and for accepting my decisions with excellent sportsmanship.
Baby Puppy Dog (3, 2)
1st Fox’s Roesilbern Water Stunner: 5 mo with an impressive outline. Head developing well, good dark eyes, excellent bone throughout. He was carrying a fraction too much weight on the day. Needs to settle on the move. He will have a bright future!
Baby Puppy Bitch (4, 1)
1st Harris & Hayward’s Kernow Winter Wonderland: very much a baby at 4 and ½ months. Developing well. Good head and markings. Strong front. Excellent mover with excellent tail carriage. Best Baby Puppy in Show
2nd Copeland’s Kernow Prize at Maxjabar: Another nice baby presenting a nice outline. Good head markings, dark eyes and strong front. Needs to grow in confidence in the ring and to settle on the move.
3rd Kinelarty Rambling Rose (Miss E Spalding)
Veteran Dog (2, 1)
1st King, Green & Dedman’s Parwizz vom Durrbachler Wald at Arvella (Imp Nld): Impressive 7 yo male with excellent head and correct dark eyes. True front on good feet. Plenty of bone throughout. Well ribbed. Correctly marked. Sound mover.
Minor Puppy Dog (2)
1st Baker’s Arvella Dashing Darius: Young male who was in between coats. He is developing well. Beautiful head with expressive eyes. Excellent depth of body for age. Good angles fore and aft. Strong hocks that he used to his advantage on the move.
2nd Harwood’s Waldershelf Tintagel Thor: Another correctly marked, quality puppy with great outline and a super head. Topline needs to firm up but this will come with age. He was a bit sluggish on the move today, perhaps due to the warm weather.
Puppy Dog (2)
1st Manix & English’s Waldershelf Fine ‘n Dandy: I absolutely loved this 10 mo puppy dog who has great type and is balanced throughout. Masculine head, dark eye, excellent markings. Super chest for age. Well laid shoulders on excellent front and feet. Plenty of bone. Excellent angulation. A very sound mover. I am sure he will have a bright future. BPIS
