The committee have sent the following statement to all members, please share this with with anyone else who might need to know.

Cancellation of Spring Garden Party 2018

Dear Members,

As you’ll know the great Bernese jamboree that is the Spring Garden Party is scheduled for this coming Sunday, April 29th. With a very heavy heart and a great deal of sadness we are sorry to announce that we have to cancel this event.

An inspection of the ground this morning (Wednesday) has forced this decision which has been a very difficult one to accept but we know it is the right thing to do. The ground was drying out nicely in recent days but has now had 24 hours of heavy rain and, although the decision has ironically been taken in bright sunshine this is forecast to be shortlived and more heavy rain is expected for the end of the week and week-end, including Sunday.

We understand this decision will disappoint many of our members and it is frustrating for us too because preparation for this event has been going on basically since the last Garden Party. However, we have to consider all of our responsibilities and the safety of our visitors as well as the practical issues and we are absolutely certain this is the correct decision to make however much we didn’t want to have to make it.

It is too soon to be sure but it is unlikely we will be able to reschedule the event into the crowded Bernese calendar and it is also too soon to confirm alternative arrangements for the photo competition and monies already paid for camping and Party food but it is most likely that we will offer to carry things over to the next Garden Party in September or offer refunds.

Please pass this message on to anyone you think might need to know or share it on any Facebook or other media groups that might be relevant. It is better for people to be told several times than not at all and waste time and money travelling.

Thank you for your understanding and sorry again for the disappointment.

The Committee
