1] BMDC of GB Club Events 2024

For 2024 the club  has made some changes to its established programme, basically condensing our 5 main events into two long Bernese week-ends, so please note the dates carefully.

Further to our changes of venue in 2023 and after the very successful trial, running  two Garden Party weekends at Hollowell Steam Rally site near Northampton and including a show at the Autumn GP, we have some changes to announce to our event dates and venues for 2024.

In 2024 we will be condensing our previous 5 events into 2 long weekend events but before these large events we have Crufts and our AGM. Click on the events where listed below for more details when available.

  Crufts – Saturday 9th  March – NEC Birmingham

  The club has a strong BMD ringside presence at Crufts with the club shop but also membership, both renewals and new memberships, can be taken as well as the new annual handbook being published and available for all members attending Crufts.

  Please collect your handbook if you can as it reduces our postage cost significantly.

  The club also organises the BMD stall for Discover Dogs where Bernese can be seen on every day of Crufts and their owners spoken to about owning the breed.

AGM – Sunday 21st April – Oakwood Community Centre, Derby

  The club’s AGM is open to all paid up members to listen to the reports of the Officers and specified Committee and all members are able to put forward proposals for discussion and vote. Following circulation of the Preliminary notice inviting proposals the Agenda is now available.

Club Week-end One – 4th and 5th May

 Following the successful trial of running an Open Show and Garden Party in one weekend in September 2023, at our Garden Party site, we plan to hold our:

 – Spring Open Show (previously held at Grenoside Community Centre, Sheffield) DEFINITELY on Saturday 4 May (please note as you may see a printing error giving other  information)

  and our

 – Spring Garden Party on Sunday 5 May

 sitting either side of the

– Saturday evening Pre Garden Party, Party

all at the

 Hollowell Steam Rally Site near Northampton.

Details of the Garden Party and Camping and Party booking arrangements will be mailed to all members in the Crufts mailing and available from here shortly afterwards.

 Club Week-end Two – 24th to 26th August

 Although our annual Breed Championship Show went very well at the Kennel Club Building, Stoneleigh Park in September 2023, the venue is  a disproportionate financial drain on the Club and has never been popular with everyone.

 As we found hosting a show alongside our Garden Party in Autumn 2023 was well received, we will now host our

 – Autumn Open Show on Saturday 24 August,

plus the

Autumn Garden Party on Sunday 25 August

 and our

 2024 Championship Show on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August 2024

 again, all at the

Hollowell Steam Rally Site near Northampton.

 At both of these week end events ……..

  On site camping will be available from much earlier in the week until after the events the week after so, if you can, why not make a 6 or 7 day relaxing Bernese break.

  Why not come and be a part of the set up volunteers team and enjoy the team spirit, sense of achievement and the fun and the tea and biscuits

  We will have informal fun social, evening events inside the marquee to complete each day but booking will be required for Saturday evening‘s pre Garden Party, Party with food provided.

  Please note these week-ends will be outdoor events but there will be plenty of room in the field for parking near the Open show ring on Saturday and day tents and gazebos will be welcome (max 3m x­­ 3m) close to the main ring.

  We look forward to welcoming everyone to Hollowell again in 2024 whether camping with us or just visiting on one or more days as many do.

 2] 2024 UK Shows where BMD CCs are on offer

 For all shows held over several days, any specific dates given will be the days on which Bernese are due to be exhibited i.e. the working group day.

 3] 2024 Overseas Events of Note

 The World Dog Show will be held in Zagreb, Serbia between 25th and 28th April with the World Show itself, for FCI Group 2 containing BMD, on Sunday 28th

 The American BMD Speciality event will be held Nr St Louis Minnesota between 31st March and 6th April

 The European Dog Show will be held in Celje, Slovenia between 3rd and 6th of October with FCI Group 2 on Saturday 5th of October.

 A Cautionary Note

 Please be aware all details are given in good faith from the best information at the time they are posted and the club can accept no responsibility for any amendments, cancellations or honest errors.

 Anyone visiting any event in this financially and climatically volatile world , including our club events, should always make their own checks before actually travelling, especially in spells of adverse weather. (Having said that our current venue at Hollowell has proved itself to be amazingly resilient to wet weather and it is difficult to imagine worse rainfall than we have encountered so far and managed to deal with!)

 The front page of this web site will be updated in the event of any club cancellations or changes and the club’s Social Media would be utilised to inform members and other visitors as far as possible. The club can accept no responsibility for travel made to a cancelled event.

Apart from never wanting to let our members down a huge amount of work goes into preparation for events before we ever arrive on site so we would only ever very reluctantly cancel any event, and always give as much notice as possible. However, sometimes cancellation is an unavoidable late decision due to changing site conditions or health and safety/insurance to name but two potential reasons.
