Dog Judge’s Report by Jackie Green
I would like to thank the Committee of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Great Britain for their kind invitation to judge at this Championship Show and, most importantly, I would like to thank all the exhibitors for giving me their entry and allowing me the pleasure of judging their dogs.
I would also like to express my thanks to my Ring Stewards, Wendy Smee and Michelle Colman, who made my day run so smoothly and to the ‘Show Team’ who provided such excellent hospitality.
I found the quality of the dogs, generally, to be of good standard and with the exception of a couple of classes my placings were easily filled. Temperaments were also good and although some of my youngsters were rather playful all bar one stood firmly for assessment. Presentation of the dogs was excellent with only a couple of exhibits not well groomed. The majority of exhibits were well handled but a couple of dogs would definitely have been higher placed had they been a little better ‘schooled’. I think it unfortunate that in the outside ring there was something of great interest to ‘The Boys’ which may well have caused some erratic movement and this did affect placings.
Although dentition was generally good with no over or undershot mouths there appeared to be more level bites than I remembered from previous appointments. Our Illustrated Breed Standard says that a complete scissor bite is the ideal but a level bite should be tolerated. I mention this purely on the number of exhibits that displayed this particular characteristic.
In my line up of unbeaten dogs I found it interesting that three of the four dogs in serious contention for top honours were sired by the same dog, Ch Meadowpark Vertigo.
My Challenge Certificate winner is an impressive example of our breed demonstrating all the qualities a Bernese Mountain Dog should possess, strong and sturdy, active and alert with excellent bone and effortless movement. Together with John Jacobsen we were pleased to award him Best in Show. We were also pleased to award his son Best Puppy in Show.

Mid Limit Dog (8, 2)
A close decision between 1st and 2nd. I preferred the compact and balanced body of 1st and the movement of 2nd. As I think that the 9:10 ratio, which our breed standard states, is of critical importance I made the decision to award as follows:

Bitch Judges Report by John Jakobsen
It was a great honour to be invited to this show. And it was a great pleasure to judge such a big event for Bernese Mountain Dogs.
Thanks to my ring stewards for doing a great job. And thanks to my colleague judge -Jackie for taking me and my wife Merete around shopping and guiding us for several days.
I have over the years judged a lot of Bernese at shows all over the world -and some faults you can see everywhere. Like a bit long noses and also quite a lot of round eyes. I also quite often comment a bit long in loin and flat croups.
I also saw these faults at this show. But still I must say I find the quality of your dogs to be very high compared to a lot of other countries I have judged the breed.
