Sunday September 2nd – the only Garden Party of the year at Priors Marsden did not disappoint, there was a lovely atmosphere all day enjoying the events and the weather which was hot but never dangerously so with periods of shade breaking up the sunshine. The previous evening’s Pre Garden Party Party was a great success with a change of fare to the normal BBQ and everyone enjoying the food and what we jokingly refer to as entertainment. Before that people were able to practise with their dogs on the agility course or trial First Draft carting or take part in Sue Brown’s demonstration of RallyO.

Huge thanks to everyone who came to our event and an even bigger thank you to all the people who help us to make this large event the success it was, we simply could not do it without our helpers.

Main ring classes Judges Report by Jayne Richards

First I would like to take this opportunity to thank the committee of the GB club for inviting me to judge at the Autumn Garden Party what a wonderful day I had.  A big thank you also goes to Sam and Mark Avery for their invaluable help and my wonderful helper Gracie without whose help I would not have managed, a lovely well mannered young lady.

The decisions today where really downright hard in all classes I felt that all the dogs today totally deserved to have been awarded a first place which is just not possible, so here goes:

Most Handsome Dog

Well this was so hard how do you pick between all these most handsome boys I was thoroughly spoiled for choice and all were in my eyes ‘ansom’ but here goes:

1st        Thompson and Kathryn Bickley

2nd       Bond and David Walton

3rd       Nugget and Sarah McTighe

4th       Jenson and Alan Perry

5th       Boris and Rachel Johnson

Prettiest Bitch

Oh Oh Oh such wonderful girls to have in front of me and all so beautiful I should have had a blind fold and got someone to twist me around and just point because all of them should have had a first place, but unfortunately that could not be so my final 5 are:

1st        Heidi and Kelly Potter

2nd       Dessa and Pam Jones

3rd       Betty and Rachel Johnson

4th       Nine and Fiona Hallam

5th       Molly and Emily Harrison

The Dog with the Most Appealing Eyes

They say the eyes are the window to the soul, well there was an amazing amount of soul in this class with such wonderful melting eyes to look into, what a wonderful way to spend a day, here are my winners:

1st        Molly and Emily Harrison

2nd       Peggy Sue and Judy Harris

3rd       Thompson and Kathryn Bickley

4th       Nugget and Sarah McTighe

Best Six Legs

All six legs matched in my winner but all brilliant in this class:

1st        Teddi and Sheila Cantrell

2nd       Hugo and Sally Anne Dolden

3rd       Cassie and Stephen Biggins

4th       Klara and Carol Dunhill

5th       Bear and Jan Brassington

Waggiest Tail

What enthusiastic dogs in this class I thought they may take off although the draft from the tails was rather welcome, but my first just had the edge:

1st        Zoe and Keith Brown

2nd       Yogi and Trish Barr

3rd       Elsie and Sarah McTighe

4th           Brig and Peter Jones

The Dog the Judge would like to take home

Well this was either one of the best classes or one of the hardest classes to judge I wanted to take them all home!!!!

1st        Buster and Adam Burchell

2nd       Boris and Rachel Johnson

3rd       Thompson and Kathryn Bickley

4th       Molly and Emily Harrison

5th       Bailey and Caitlin Buckley

Not sure how to express why my winner won but lets just say the colouring won out!!!!

1st        Yogi and Trish Barr

2nd       Jilly and Neil Hutchinson

3rd       Loulou and Elaine Worrell

Junior Handling 9-11 Years

I am hoping these young ladies will be our future in the breed both beautifully handed and executed with style, unfortunately only one 1st place which Emily secured by a whisker.

1st        Emily Harrison and Molly

2nd       Grace Tomkinson and Tehya

Junior Handling 12-16

Once again I am hoping these young ladies will continue and we will see them in the ring with our future Champions, both deserved huge congratulations on their handling skills but unfortunately only one winner:

1st        Darcey and Gracie Murphy

2nd       Thompson and Kathryn Bickley

Eleven Legged Race

What can I say except it was performed to perfection so wonderfully achieved, so glad I was watching and not taking part J

1st        Kathryn and Anna Bickley with Thompson and Hugo

Best Brace or Trio

All undertaken so wonderfully well, the first and second received their prize on dexterity and agility by handling three dogs up the ring and back but all deserve recognition for their coordination and handling just amazing:

1st        Napoleon, Nine and Belle with Fiona Hallam

2nd       Lexi Bramble and Sprinkles with Andy smith

3rd       Keeva and Dazey with Helen Thompson

4th       Maddie and Mia with Kim Flaxman

Best Party Trick

First was fab moving through the legs and was fully engaged with her owner, although my second winner had a wonderful diversity of moves which caused me to have a difficult decision, having said this all my winners had the perfect moves.

So, another Garden Party passes by and we hope everyone who took part in it is proud that they were a part of another special Bernese Day. It doesn’t matter who wins and who doesn’t at the Garden Party. It really is about being there to take part or to just sit and appreciate those who do. A family day of smiles and whilst we would all like the facilities to be better and to be able to do more, no one complains and everyone comes back the next time for more of the same. We hope to see you there next time in May 2019 for a great Bernese day out.
